Target Audience

Hello, today I will be talking to you about the difference between online and offline target audiences.  Throughout the semester I have been following Southern New Hampshire University through various forms of social media. SNHU is a brand that does a great job with social media, partially due to the fact that they understand the difference between their online target audience and offline target audience. Both online and offline target audiences are important in developing a strong perceived image and awareness of your brand. In terms of social media, which is made up of user generated content it is important to be able to understand your audience.

This is where the Groundswell tool comes in handy. This tool classifies consumers into seven overlapping levels of social participation. This tool is extremely helpful in understanding your audience and what types of social media will best reach them. For Southern New Hampshire University the groundswell tool is as follows. SNHU’s main target audience’s demographics are both males and females in the united states between the ages of 18- 24. According to the Groundswell tool, SNHU’s target audience mainly falls into the spectators and joiners classifications and has a very low amount of innovators.  SNHU does a very good job of targeting their online audience and understanding where and what they will be doing online.

Once you understand the Groundswell tool in relation to your company you can start to understand and use COBRA motivation. When developing a strategy and deciding on objectives, it is essential to make sure to look at the motivations of your target audience.  COBRA motivations are motivations to consume, contribute and create content and are separated into low, middle, and high engagement. Southern New Hampshire University also must have a good understanding of the motivations of their online target audience because they are very active and engaged on social media. Thanks for reading my blog today, hopefully you learned something interesting!

Tweeting Bikes Coming to South By Southwest

Socialbike

Today i will be blogging about an interesting current event that i read about on mashable.com. The article was titled Tweeting Bikes Coming to South By Southwest.   Digital ad agency Razorfish will be sending out about twenty bike strategically placed at high capacity events. These bike will be free to use and contain GPS and its own twitter ID. They will then be tweeting this about there location, the weather, and other topics of interest. The bikes will also have QR codes that will send the riders to usemeleaveme.com and are pushing the hashtag usememleaveme. If the bikes are stolen the twitter account will then tweet RIP and sign off.

I think this is a very cool idea to promote Razorfish's ad agency and is a very unique social experiment. I think that if this program works well, other businesses could develop similar products which would be a great form of social interaction and involvement between companies and customers.  This will be an interesting concept to check up on and see how the program worked out.
Thanks for reading today and come back for more interesting posts in two weeks!

Getting excited to travel!

This week I will be talking about one of my main interests, traveling. This spring break I will be traveling with my school, Southern New Hampshire University, to Sorrento Italy! I am getting increasingly excited as the day inches closer and closer. Currently there are only nineteen days until this amazing week long adventure will begin. During this trip we will visit multiple interesting places including Rome, Pompeii, And the Amalfi Coast.  A bunch of my friends are also going on this trip and I’m excited to share the adventure with all of them. I have always wanted to go to Italy and as soon as I found out our school was putting on this trip I was on board. Italy has such an amazing history behind it and contains such a beautiful landscape.
My love for traveling first started my senior year of high school when I went to England during spring vacation. One hundred and fifty of my class mates and I traveled the country with our school band. We traveled to London, Bathe, Stonehenge, and Ipswich England and performed in cathedrals and schools along the way.  I created a Photo Website  after my trip which shows how great of a time I had. This was my first time out of the country and I am so glad that I have the opportunity to travel again after only a few years. Hopefully in the future I will be able to travel to many more amazing places but for now stay tuned for more posts from me!

Super Bowl Commercials

Every year Americans await one of the most talked about events of the year, the SuperBowl.  Weather people are rooting for their team, enjoying the commercials, or just having fun socializing and eating snacks at a party, this event grabs the attention from our nation. Since the SuperBowl is a main time for socializing and the best commercials stir up a lot of conversation, Social media is a perfect way for companies to increase the publicity on their ads. When incorporating social media companies can keep track of customer’s opinions and generate more buzz on the advertisement. This SuperBowl the majority of the popular commercials contained some form of social media connection. However the commercial that did the best job in my opinion was " Budweiser SuperBowl Ad- The Clydesdales: "Brotherhood" "
This commercial not only used #Clydesdales but also added interaction by asking customers to “help name the baby Clydesdale seen in this commercial” by tweeting the name using the hashtag to @Budweiser. After seeing this I went on twitter and quickly saw that a few of my friends had already tweeted about this ad. I then re-tweeted one of my friends who had just used the hashtag and clicked the hashtag to see what others were saying. The first thing that popped up was a picture of the baby Clydesdale that was seen in the ad and restated the question of what should its name be. I think Budweiser did an amazing job incorporating twitter into their SuperBowl commercial and generated a surge of tweets to their page. Since the SuperBowl commercials are incredibly expensive, incorporating social media definitely helped Budweiser increase the productivity of their ad and increase the awareness of their twitter account.

About Me

Hi, my name is Amanda Weir and I am a sophomore at Southern New Hampshire University from Ipswich Massachusetts. I am pursuing a major in marketing with a minor in social media marketing and hope to find a career and internships within this field. In my free time I enjoy staying active, whether that be snowboarding, wake boarding, water skiing or going for a run. I am also very creative and love working on unique projects, such as collages.  This blog is for my social media marketing strategies class in which I will be following my University, SNHU, throughout different social media platforms and observing their strategy. Each week I will be posting a blog relevant to both what I learn in class, and through my observations of Southern New Hampshire University’s social media strategy.  This is the first blog I have ever created and I am very excited to get started! Thank you for reading my first post and check back next week for an insight into social media marketing.
